SCNet was pleased to be represented at the annual meeting of the Entomological Collections Network (ECN) in Portland, OR 15-16 November 2014. Gil Nelson (iDigBio) and Christy Bills (University of Utah and ECN) presented a session entitled Mobilizing Dark Data: Raising the Profiles of Small Natural History Collections that generated interest on several levels and a follow up roundtable discussion at the evening dinner following Saturday’s activities. The issues of "dark data" and how to define "small" across collection types were of particular interest. Bills and Nelson also made contact with representatives of several small collections during the meeting and left the conference with several avenues of continued collaboration. The presentation was recorded and is archived on the ECN wiki at iDigBio as the second talk in the 3:30-5:10 time block.
